Pickup at 8:00 AM from your Tangier hotel, riad, port, or cruise terminal. You settle into a private air-conditioned vehicle for the 115 km drive southeast — about two to two and a half hours through the foothills of the Rif, past olive groves, eucalyptus, and white villages, as the road climbs to Chefchaouen at 600 m.
We reach Chaouen around 10:30 AM and step straight into the blue. Your walk starts at the Bab el-Ain gate and winds through the prettiest lanes — the famous blue staircases, the alleys lined with painted flowerpots, and the weavers’ quarter where Rif wool and leather are still worked by hand. We come out at Plaza Uta el-Hammam, the main square, and visit the red-earth Kasbah with its Andalusian garden and rooftop view.
Lunch is your own choice and we will recommend: the rooftops around the plaza do tagines, couscous, the fresh goat-cheese salad that is a Chaouen thing, and mint tea with the mountains in front of you.
We walk out to the Ras el-Maa waterfall at the edge of the medina, where the spring water comes down cold off the Rif and the women still rinse their wool — the light here is the best in town. Then you have free time to shop for woven blankets and djellabas, or take the easy 30-minute climb to the Spanish Mosque viewpoint for the whole blue town laid out below.
We leave Chefchaouen around 4:30 PM and have you back in Tangier by about 7:00 PM, dropped at your hotel, riad, or the port.
