The first night is a camel trek and a Berber camp out on the dunes; the next morning a 4×4 loop past Khamlia and the nomad tents. Then the road swings west along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the Todra Gorge, where the walls nearly touch overhead, and the Dades hairpins before looping back to Errachidia. Pickup at 9:00 AM from your Errachidia hotel, airport, or bus station. We drive south into the red-rock Ziz Gorge, then the Ziz Oasis — over a million date palms down 70 km of valley. We stop at Erfoud, the fossil town, and the great souk at Rissani, birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty. You reach Merzouga by mid-afternoon and ride camels over the Erg Chebbi dunes for sunset to a Berber camp run by people we know — tagine, drums, stars.
Accommodation: Berber desert camp at Erg Chebbi (half board).
The sunrise from the tallest dune, camels back for breakfast, then a morning 4×4 circuit of Erg Chebbi — the Gnawa village of Khamlia, nomad households on the hammada, fossil beds. After lunch west to the Todra Gorge, where 300-metre walls close to a few metres apart and you walk the cool floor, then the Dades Valley for sunset on the cliffs.
Accommodation: hotel or riad in the Dades Valley (half board).
A morning at the Dades hairpins and the monkey-finger rocks, then back east via Tinghir and the Ziz Valley to Errachidia by about 4:00 PM — or onward to Ouarzazate or Marrakech if you like.
