Pickup at 7:30 AM from your Fes hotel or riad. We travel south across the Middle Atlas mountains, stopping at Ifrane, the Alpine-style town known for its neat parks and sloped roofs. We then visit the ancient Azrou cedar forest to spot the playful Barbary macaques living among the tall pines. After a lunch break in the mountain town of Midelt, we wind through the spectacular red-rock gorges of the Ziz Valley, stopping to admire the panoramic overlook of a million date palms stretching across the desert canyon floor.
By late afternoon, we reach Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara. You will ride camels into the Erg Chebbi dunes for a sunset trek, watching the sand glow gold and orange. We arrive at a cozy Berber desert camp for the night, featuring private en-suite tents, a hot tagine dinner, traditional drumming around a campfire, and stargazing under the clear desert sky.
Accommodation: Berber desert camp at Erg Chebbi (half board).
Wake up early to watch a beautiful sunrise from the tallest dune, followed by a camel ride back to Merzouga for breakfast (with optional sandboarding). We then travel west to the historic town of Rissani to visit its lively traditional market. Continuing our drive, we reach the town of Tinghir and enter the spectacular Todra Gorge, where you will take a relaxing walk along the riverbed between towering 300-metre-high red limestone cliffs.
In the afternoon, we continue into the picturesque Dades Valley, famous for its red-rock kasbahs and winding mountain hairpins, arriving at your accommodation by early evening for dinner.
Accommodation: hotel or riad in the Dades Valley (half board).
After breakfast, we head west along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, driving through the fragrant Rose Valley (famous for its May-June rose harvest and rosewater distilleries) and the palm oases of Skoura. We pass through Ouarzazate, Morocco’s film capital, where you can opt to visit the Atlas Film Studios. We then arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou, walking across the river to explore the mud-brick lanes of this ancient fortified village featured in Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
After lunch, we begin our climb over the High Atlas mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260 m), stopping at scenic viewpoints and an argan oil cooperative along the way. We reach Marrakech by early evening, dropping you off at your hotel, the airport, or the train station. When you are ready, send us a message — we will plan it around you.
