You walk down the shaded path past the old water mills to the foot of the falls, where wild Barbary macaques come down to the trees and a little wooden boat takes you close enough to feel the mist. We stop for a tagine on a terrace right over the water before the easy climb back. Bring shoes you do not mind getting wet.

Departure at 8:30 AM from your Marrakech hotel or riad. We drive northeast across the Tadla plateau, past Berber villages, olive groves and wheat fields — about two and a half hours of the rural Morocco most visitors never see — to the Cascades d’Ouzoud by around 11:00 AM.
You walk down through old olive groves to the platforms, the roar growing and the mist cooling the air, where the falls drop 110 metres over red rock in three tiers and throw rainbows. Watch for the Barbary macaques in the trees — they are curious and often come close. There is a little boat that will take you across the pool right under the cascade if you want.
Lunch is a Berber tagine on a terrace looking straight at the water. In the afternoon we walk the lower gorge, visit an old olive mill turned by a waterwheel, and you can swim in the pools if it is warm. We leave around 3:30 PM and have you back in Marrakech by about 6:30 PM.
