Pickup at 7:30 AM from your hotel or riad in Fes. We drive south across the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping first in the alpine town of Ifrane, known as “Little Switzerland” for its clean streets and red-tiled roofs. We then visit the ancient cedar forest of Azrou, home to wild Barbary macaques. After a lunch break in the mountain town of Midelt, we descend through the dramatic red cliffs of the Ziz Valley, stopping at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking millions of date palms.
In the late afternoon, we reach the desert outpost of Merzouga. You will mount camels for a sunset trek into the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, watching the sand change color. We arrive at a traditional Berber camp where you will enjoy a hot tagine dinner, drum music around the fire, and a night in private tents under the starry sky.

We wake early to watch a beautiful Sahara sunrise over the dunes, followed by breakfast at the camp. We ride the camels back to Merzouga. Before departing, you can optionally try sandboarding, rent quads, or visit the Gnawa musicians in Khamlia. We then drive back to Fes via the Ziz Valley and Midelt, arriving in Fes by about 8:00 PM.
