Day one crosses the Tizi n’Tichka pass to the UNESCO kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou and through the Dades Valley; day two runs the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs and the Todra Gorge before a sunset camel trek into the dunes and a camp run by people we know. Departure at 8:00 AM from your Marrakech hotel or riad. We climb south over the majestic High Atlas mountains, navigating the famous Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260 m). Along the way, we stop at dramatic viewpoints where the green valleys give way to rugged rock, passing traditional Berber mud-brick villages nestled on the hillsides where shepherds tend their flocks.
We descend to the historic fortified village of Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou — the UNESCO World Heritage mud-brick citadel that served as the backdrop for films like Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones. After walking the narrow earthen alleys with your guide and enjoying lunch, we continue past the film studios of Ouarzazate. The drive leads through the scenic Rose Valley and the green Skoura oasis, entering the Dades Valley by early evening as the sun sets over the red canyon walls.

After a hearty breakfast, we take a short drive to the spectacular Dades Gorges to view the unusual “Monkey Fingers” rock formations. We then head to the lush palm groves of the Tinghir Oasis, where we stop for a peaceful walk under the towering 300-metre cliffs of the Todra Gorge, a dramatic limestone canyon carved by the river.
Continuing east through the desert towns of Tinjdad and Erfoud, the fossil capital, we stop to see how 350-million-year-old marine fossils are extracted and polished into beautiful marble pieces. By late afternoon, we reach Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara. Here, you will mount a camel for an enchanting 1.5-hour trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes. Watch the sands shift from bright gold to warm amber and deep orange as the sun sets, before arriving at our private luxury desert camp. Enjoy a traditional Berber dinner, live drumming around the campfire, and a peaceful night in a private en-suite tent under a sky thick with stars.

We wake up before dawn to climb the dunes and witness a serene Sahara sunrise, watching the early light paint the dunes in pink and gold. After breakfast at the camp, you can return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4. We then make a stop in the historic market town of Rissani, the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty, to explore its lively traditional souk where local merchants sell spices, dates, and handmade crafts.
From Rissani, we begin the long, scenic drive back towards Marrakech. The journey takes us through the dramatic landscapes of the Draa Valley and across the rugged Anti-Atlas Mountains, stopping for lunch and panoramic photos along the way.
