Cross the High Atlas Mountains, explore ancient kasbahs, drive through the spectacular Dades and Todra Gorges, and finish with a sunset camel trek and a magical night in a luxury Sahara desert camp. This is the quintessential Morocco desert experience — perfectly balanced between adventure, culture, and comfort.
Departure: 8:00 AM from your Marrakech hotel/riad
Leave Marrakech and drive south through the High Atlas Mountains, climbing the legendary Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260m). Stop at a panoramic viewpoint for photos and enjoy the changing landscape from lush valleys to rocky peaks.
Descend to the stunning Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou — a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has served as the backdrop for Hollywood blockbusters including Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones. Walk through the ancient mud-brick fortress with your guide and learn about its fascinating history.
After lunch, continue to Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert,” before driving east along the spectacular Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Pass through the Rose Valley (famous for its rose water festival in May) and the Skoura Oasis.
Arrive in the Dades Valley in the evening.

Morning: After breakfast, drive to the spectacular Todra Gorge — a dramatic canyon with 300-meter-high rock walls and a narrow passage carved by the Todra River. Walk through the gorge and admire the stunning geological formations.
Continue east through the arid desert landscapes, passing through Tinjdad and Erfoud — known as the fossil capital of Morocco. Here you can visit a marble fossil workshop to see 350-million-year-old marine fossils.
Arrive in Merzouga in the afternoon, at the foot of the magnificent Erg Chebbi sand dunes — some reaching heights of 150 meters.
Late afternoon: Mount your camel and embark on a 1.5-hour sunset camel trek into the heart of the dunes. Watch the light transform the sand from gold to amber to deep orange as the sun sets behind the Sahara.
Arrive at your luxury desert camp — equipped with private en-suite tents, comfortable beds, a dining area and a bonfire circle.
Evening: Enjoy a gourmet Moroccan dinner followed by traditional Berber music and drumming around the campfire. Step outside to witness the most incredible star-filled sky you’ve ever seen.

Early morning: Wake before dawn and climb the dunes (or ride a camel) to watch the sunrise over the Sahara — an absolutely breathtaking experience as the first rays of light set the dunes on fire.
After breakfast at the camp, ride camels back to Merzouga. Visit the traditional market town of Rissani — the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty. Browse the lively souk and learn about the region’s history.
Begin the return journey to Marrakech via Ouarzazate, stopping for lunch along the way. Drive back through the Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tichka.
Arrival: Back at your Marrakech hotel/riad by approximately 8:00 PM.
